Pkg-provides is an open source project providing a database with the list of every single files installed by FreeBSD packages and a pluging for pkg - the FreeBSD package manager - to fetch and search this database. Pkg-provides is used to query which package in your pkg catalog provides a particular file given a pattern The database is update daily based on the FreeBSD official repos. Pkg-provides database and plugin is not part of the FreeBSD project nor maintained by pkg developers.
